You want to look amazing on your wedding day. And one of the keys to that is the dress you choose. Here are some suggestions for choosing the perfect wedding dress.
Some styles compliment several different body shapes, while some are only attractive on one or two. If you are checking out dresses in bridal magazines, be brutally honest with yourself. If you find a dress you love, ask yourself, is your body shape the same as the model’s? Try different dress styles, especially those we recommend for your body shape.
If This Is Your Body Shape:
The Ideal Hourglass
If you have an hourglass shape you are lucky enough to have many dress choices. You will look outstanding in the very popular Mermaid Trumpet dress; the A Line Princess cut dress and in the Column Sheath. Since you have a lovely figure, be sure to choose something that accentuates and compliments it, not something that hides it.
Elegantly Tall and Thin
You too are fortunate to have a shape that is model-like and makes almost any dress look stunning. The Mermaid Trumpet, Column Sheath and the Ball Gown will compliment your body shape. If you would like to look a bit more curvy than you actually are, choose a dress that is a little less form fitting so that the dress rounds out your figure. You are lucky that with your figure you will be able to choose from the latest styles.
Delightfully Petite
Being a bit shorter means that you do not want to choose a dress that accentuates your small stature. Even if you have a tiny figure that would otherwise look good in some of the popular gowns, they may make you look too short. The Column Sheath, the A Line Princess and the Empire Waist will all make you look slim and elegant but also will visually make you appear a bit taller.
Appealing Apple
This body shape is rounder and needs your gown to define a waist or accentuate your bust line. The Empire Waist and A Line Princess will pull in your shape between the bust and waist. The Ball Gown will sleek down to a well defined waist and then transition to a lovely, full skirt.
Charming Pear
Another round shape that requires definition is the pear shape. The bride with the pear shape usually has small shoulders and smaller breasts, but then her hips are more generous. The Ball Gown will ease the transition from the bride’s smaller top to her more full hips. Both the A Line Princess and the Empire Waist, as with the Apple shape body help to define the chest and waist area to avoid appearing too round. Perhaps consider a lace bodice to help accentuate your more petite top.
Captivating Full Figure
Brides who have a fuller figure need to avoid any gown that adds to that full figure appearance. You need to choose a dress that will have a slimming effect. Anything to fluffy, puffy or flouncy will accentuate rather than minimize your extra curves. Choose an A Line Princess or Empire Waist gown for the best slim effect.
After you find the right dress you will need to select a veil that compliments both your body and the fabric of your dress.
This article’s goal was to be helpful in choosing the perfect wedding dress for you. Your goal is to choose a dress that looks stunning on you. No one will care what style you choose, only that you look amazing in your wedding gown. Feel free to try on styles that you love but that aren’t necessarily well suited to you. But look carefully at yourself in those gowns and decide if they really make you look as terrific as you want to look.
